As insurance companies and the Republicans are still doing everything they possibly can to keep the Affordable Health Care Act from taking effect, there are some good signs that it is graduatlly taking effect. The government has set up both a Web site and an 800 number to help people with questions about health coverage. The Web site is www.healthcare.gov and the 800 number is 1-800-318-2596.
With the new health care exchanges, many will find that they can obtain insurance at a much lower cost than they are presently paying. That is because the insurance companies are finding because of competition among the companies they have to give lower rates in order to attract patients. They have made so much moeny in the past that this is very good news.
The drug companies, too, are supposed to begin charging less for their drugs, but so far I am finding the drugs are tripling in price. I suspect the drug companies are increasing their prices, so they will be ready if they have to reduce them. Because the drug companies in the U.S. make the most of any corporations, I hope some controls will be put on their costs. We will see what happens!
