The main problem is unbelievably high cost of health care in US, almost 16% of GDP and still rising. Your private coverage is 55% compared to 30% here in Canada, so I don't think problem is in private insurance. On the other hand, how do you want to "regulate" costs? You order doctors not to earn more than xz$? It really doesn't have easy solution...
