It is hard to believe that the Republicans in Congress want to cut forty billion dollars from the food stamp program. All most all of those in Congress have considerable wealth, excellent health care, and great pensions. I doubt that any of them have ever been really hungry. Cutting forty billion dollars from the food stamp program will impact fourteen million children. Sending a child to school hungry when even the hot meals at noon may be eliminated is morally wrong. How can a child learn if they are hungry? Perhaps that is part of the Republicans' plan. If they can keep Americans uneducated, then they can do want they want with the country.
To qualify for food stamps, a family's income has to be $14,941 or lower. In almost all of the families that receive food stamps, one member is working. Many of those who get food stamps are veterans. That is as cruel as it can get. We owe our veterans a great debt. The statistics are that fourteen percent of households will have their food budgets cut. I wish all the people in Congress who want to cut the food stamp program and other safety net programs could visit some of the people who are trying to get through each day, but find that hunger, poverty and a poor education are hard walls to climb.
Senator Ted Cruz fought hard to organize the government shutdown that cost 24 billion dollars, but cutting forty billion dollars in food stamps is also part of his agenda. Yet he calls himself a Christian?
I could not refrain from commenting. Exceptionally well written!
