As millions of Americans are now receiving health insurance thanks to the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare), the Republicans just had their 56th vote to repeal it. They are both wasting tax payer money and showing how little they care about low income and middle class people. The vote was 239 to 186 and no Democrats voted to repeal the law. Florida has had the biggest enrollment and it is hard to believe what would happen if the law was truly repealed. Millions woukld lose their health insurance. Because most of the members in Congress have lots of money of their own or outside sources, such as the Koch brothers, they seem to care little about anyone else.
It is interesting that the health insurance companies are very happy about the law. United Health insurance has shown a 32% increase in profit, Aetna, 19% and Humana 25%. For-profit hospitals are also showing big profits, as are the greedy drug companies. The New York Times this morning discussed a pill for hepatitis C that costs $1000 per pill. This really makes you want to scream and move to a country that has health insurance and drug coverage for all.
The enrollment period this time is over February 15th, so it is important that anyone who needs insurance, such as those not on their parents'' policies and others who cannot afford high insurance rates get enrolled. Let's hope the highly political Supreme Court does not do anything to change coverage. A great many people would suffer and health care costs would sky rocket.
