Medicaid takes care of far more than just those who live in poverty. 2/3 or nursing home bills are paid by Medicaid. In addition, the program also helps those who are unable to afford the high cost of private insurance. Of course, if Paul Ryan and Trump have their way, health insurance premiums will rise even more. During the campaign, Mr. Trump kept saying that he would see to it that everyone was covered by health insurance. Of course, that promise like many of his others was untrue. Drug prices continue to go up and there will be no way of stopping even higher prices as long as Trump is in the White House.
Ar this point, the figures are that that 74.6 million children and adults are covered by Medicaid and its sister program for children. The disabled, those with pre-existing conditions, and poor seniors will be particularly at risk if the money for Medicaid is drastically reduced. The decrease is so the very wealthy 1% can have extremely large tax cuts and the estate tax can be repealed. The Trump family will become even richer. I hope the Republicans who have some compassion and knowledge of the great harm this budget will cause will have the courage to vote against it. Sadly, many will vote to stay in power rather than worrying about what the changes would do to their constituents.
I hope this will be addressed well so that no one suffers.
