As a pediatrician who has had to care for countless pregnant teenagers, I am greatly troubled by the very political Supreme Court's possible decision to probably overturn Roe versus Wade. When a teenager has been raped by a family friend and cannot get an abortion, that is criminal. I thought the Supreme Court was not supposed to be a political body, yet they certainly are and several of the members have lied about what they would do about abortion rights.
I wonder if a teenage child of one of the justices was raped by a family friend and become pregnant if the justice would make that girl carry the baby to term? What if the infant was found to have a disability? I can not believe any parent could be that cruel. The Republican Evangelicals have been pushing for a total ban on abortions for many years. Yet do they realize that if a parent is forced to have an unwanted child that the child could suffer from abuse, both physical and mental. I have seen that happen. One of the reasons I sold my much-loved pediatric practice and took jobs in the Bay area caring for children with disabilities was that I could no longer stand the way many of my patients were treated by their parents. We must all protest what the Supreme Court may do about abortion. Please!
