Now that summer is here, it is often hard to figure out how to keep children busy and safe. I know I always breathed a sigh of relief when summer was over and my children were back in school. Sending older children to camp can help, but that too can be a worry unless you have done careful research about a camp. My son came back from a one week's stay at a camp with a badly infected leg from a cut he had sustained. The camp was well known, but they were obviously not good about checking on their campers. I had researched them, but something went wrong.
Water can be a major problem if there is a swimming pool, lake, or ocean, so teaching children to swim as soon as possible is important , except when they are babies. I have never undertood taking babies into pools. Kids with and without disablities account for about 40% of visits to emergency rooms. So always keeping an eye on little children and educating older children about summer risks is important. Having a first aid kit in the car and house is a good idea, also.
It can be such a challenge to constantly monitor your little ones. You are spot on that summer is a lot more stressful as far as risks go. Thanks for the great post!
